A Call to Walk in the Wild

“Golden Embrace” by Stephen Henning

“Golden Embrace” is an Open Invitation to Enter My World

Let me share with you the creative process and inspiration behind my latest artwork, "Golden Embrace." This piece is a 30” x 36” acrylic on canvas painting that holds a deeply personal connection to one of my favorite places to walk - the Central Lakes Trail, and this specific spot is located just half a mile from my studio.

I finished this painting at the beginning of October, just in time for the St. Paul Art Crawl. This original painting is currently on display and available for purchase at Dow Art Gallery, 2242 University Ave W, St Paul, MN - in the heart of St. Paul's Creative Enterprise Zone.

"Golden Embrace" isn't merely a painting; it's an invitation into a richly detailed forest scene bathed in the warm, golden glow of a setting sun. As the sunlight filters through a dense canopy of trees, it casts a vibrant, embracing light that dances across the leaves and foliage. This play of light and shadow creates an atmosphere that is both tranquil and mysterious, capturing the natural beauty and serenity of the forest.

My goal with this artwork was to effectively balance colors and light, creating a harmonious image that evokes peace and invites viewers to imagine a serene walk through the woodland. As I worked on this painting, I found myself continually drawn into the tranquility of the scene I was depicting. Each brushstroke was a step through the forest, a pause in the embrace of nature, a moment of reflection.

The unique process of creating "Golden Embrace" was driven by the desire to highlight the beauty of the forest in what I believe to be a visually compelling way. It's an exploration of light, texture, and color, all meticulously crafted to evoke the calmness and wonder of a woodland setting at the close of day.

Through "Golden Embrace," I hope to share with you more than just a landscape; I hope to impart a feeling—a moment of stillness and connection to the natural world that resides so close to my heart.
