Discover Your Creative Side!
Are you ready to embrace your inner artist this winter? I’m Stephen Henning, a fine artist who has worked with oil pastels for nearly two decades, and I’d love to invite you to explore the vibrant world of oil pastels with me. In these immersive workshops, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, you’ll find an inspiring space to nurture your creativity and refine your technique.
Workshop Schedule:
1. Saturday, January 18, 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Location: Annandale Public Library
Let’s kick off the season together with an engaging two-hour session where we’ll dive into creating tropical landscapes inspired by the Florida Highwaymen and A.E. Backus. I’ll guide you step by step in a welcoming and supportive environment.
2. Saturday, February 15, 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Location: Kimball Public Library
Join me for another session focusing on tropical landscapes, again drawing inspiration from the Florida Highwaymen and A.E. Backus.
For the first two classes all materials are provided. You don’t need to bring a thing—just your enthusiasm and curiosity! Both of the library classes are sponsored by the Rumriver Art Center and Great River Regional Library, with funding made possible from an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
3. Saturday, March 1, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Location: Historic Holmes Theatre Art Cellar, Detroit Lakes
This three-hour session is an introduction to oil pastels for artists aged 19 and up. Younger artists are welcome, too, with a special discounted rate. We’ll explore the basics of oil pastels and unleash your creativity together.
What to Expect:
Expert Guidance: As a signature member of the Oil Pastel Society and an accomplished artist, I’ll provide hands-on instruction tailored to your skill level.
Creative Exploration: You’ll discover the versatility of oil pastels, from bold strokes to delicate blending techniques.
Inspiration: I’ll share insights from my years of experience and my unique style.
Why Join?
Winter is the perfect time to explore new artistic horizons or deepen your existing practice. These workshops offer an inspiring way to connect with fellow art enthusiasts and create something truly unique.
In 2005, I expanded my artistic repertoire to include oil pastels, earning recognition in national juried exhibits of the Oil Pastel Society. By 2007, I achieved signature member status and had my oil pastel work juried into two of the American Impressionist Society's Annual National Exhibitions, in Chicago and Palm Springs. Since then, I’ve taught workshops for numerous art organizations across the Upper Midwest.
I’m looking forward to sharing my passion for oil pastels with you. Spaces are limited, so secure your spot today! Please contact the libraries or Holmes’ Art Cellar directly for more information and registration details.
